Who can be a PAS2035 Retrofit Designer?

PAS 2035 creates a number of new roles for the construction industry. For example, who is a PAS 2035 Retrofit Designer?

I've created this flowchart to show the routes defined by the PAS 2035 risk assessment process for the three risk pathways A B or C. Each pathway has a different outcome based on the qualifications and professional memberships held.

Pathways B and C for medium and high risk must also consider whether traditional construction techniques or listed buildings are involved. If yes, this requires an additional accredited conservation qualification.

As it stands, as an experienced UK Architect I am already permitted to call myself a Retrofit Designer under Paths A and B, plus medium risk Path B using traditional construction (or a listing) with my RIBA CR status.

I am currently undertaking Retrofit Coordinator training through The Retrofit Academy CIC which will allow me to undertake that role, plus do high risk Path C retrofit as a Retrofit Designer by virtue of being both a Retrofit Coordinator and an Architect.

A takeaway from Futurebuild was that Retrofit Designers, Coordinators and Assessors are in short supply - so why not find out more and see if you are suited to one or more of the roles? Drop me a line if you want to pick my brains on what I've learnt so far.
